Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes Signature Events bring our community together throughout the year to honor, remember, and support veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, and their families. From running in memory of fallen heroes to enjoying award-winning barbecue, providing Thanksgiving meals, and placing remembrance wreaths on veterans’ graves, each event reflects our commitment to those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

Fallen Heroes 5 Miler

July 4th

The Fallen Heroes 5 Miler is held annually on July 4 and is one of the most meaningful Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes Signature Events. The 2026 race was held at James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, bringing hundreds of runners, walkers, volunteers, families, veterans, first responders, and community supporters together.

This event is about much more than crossing a finish line. Participants run in honor and memory of fallen military members and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Each runner has the opportunity to carry the memory of a hero along the course, creating a powerful tribute on Independence Day.

The Fallen Heroes 5 Miler combines patriotism, fitness, remembrance, and community support into one unforgettable July 4 tradition.

BBQ Cookoff At The Beach

Get ready for great food and family fun at the Annual BBQ Cookoff At The Beach, taking place every October at Town Hill in Colonial Beach, Virginia.

The BBQ Cookoff At The Beach is one of the largest and most exciting Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes Signature Events of the year. BBQ teams compete for cash prizes and bragging rights while preparing incredible ribs and pork for competition and public taste testing.

Guests can spend the afternoon tasting BBQ, visiting local vendors, enjoying family-friendly activities, and supporting an organization dedicated to veterans and first responders.

The event is open to the public, and community participation helps Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes continue its programs and assistance efforts throughout Virginia.

Thanksgiving for Heroes

Thanksgiving for Heroes is our opportunity to say thank you to the men and women who continue serving our communities during the holidays.

Held annually in November, Thanksgiving for Heroes provides Thanksgiving turkeys and treats to local law enforcement agencies, fire and rescue departments, first responders, and veterans throughout the Fredericksburg area. 

Unlike a traditional fundraiser, this event focuses on appreciation. Many first responders spend Thanksgiving working instead of celebrating at home with their families. Providing  this opportunity is a simple but meaningful way of reminding them that their dedication does not go unnoticed.

Thanksgiving for Heroes represents the heart behind Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes Signature Events—bringing people together to recognize those who continue answering the call to serve.

Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America Fredericksburg  takes place every December at Noon at Oak Hill Cemetery, located at 1902 Plank Road in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Each December, volunteers, families, veterans, community organizations, and supporters gather to place remembrance wreaths on the graves of veterans. The ceremony ensures that the names and sacrifices of those who served our country are never forgotten.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to Remember, Honor and Teach. Fredericksburg Fallen Heroes is proud to continue that mission locally by honoring the veterans resting at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Community members can participate by sponsoring a wreath, volunteering, attending the ceremony, or helping place wreaths. Each wreath represents a life, a family, a story, and a commitment to our nation.
